PELANG, PELING, PELAIN
An 18th century term for plain weave Chinese silks, imported into France from Japan through Dutch merchants. Made 16-in. to 20-in. wide and 10 yards to 11 yards long, both white and in colours. Sometimes it had woven ornaments, and also satin weave.
